Are Egyptians arabs or not?

I know an egyptian friend who says that not just because they speak arabic doesn't classify them as arabs, Brazilians speak Portuguese but the are not Portuguese! She told me that egypt and all other northern african countries (e.g. Morocco, Algeria, etc) are simply independent from the middle east and other arab countries, as there is nothing to tie them to them, they even have a different history with the ancient egyptians and stuff rather than the whole arabian history stuff... Anyways she told me that arabs in countries like saudi arabia are so much different in terms of their culture and their ways and do not respect egyptians, especially women with their perception of all of them being whores...and that egyptians (though they don't publicize it) donot really like saudi arabians and most arabs...What do you think is what she saying total bull, or does she have a point? She is not the first person who said that too I have seen it all over the internet!
