Lucid dreaming and Jared Loughner.?

As a practiced lucid dreamer myself and other like me, do any of you believe that Jared Loughner's actions could spark negative consequences to the lucid dreaming community? Having said that it has been my experience that most people around me neither know or would even care about the ability of a person to control ones dreams even existed. For that reason I to not publicize my ability's as a lucid dreamer to any of my peers because I feel I shouldn't have to. My concern is this, if lucid dreaming becomes somehow widely known, will it give us all a bad rap? Which is an even bigger reason not to tell anyone that I can lucid dream.
